In the case of Gombe, the court is scheduled to hear an appeal filed by Jibrin Barde, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is seeking to overturn the election of Governor Muhammad Yahaya (APC).

The Supreme Court is scheduled to rule on Friday, January 19, in disputes over the last gubernatorial elections in five states.

The states targeted are Ogun, Kebbi, Gombe, Nasarawa and Delta states as tensions are high due to political party expectations over the verdict.

According to the court schedule, judgment has been handed down on two Ogun-related appeals,  SC/CV/1221/2023 by Mr. Oladippo Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and SC/CV/1223/2023 by incumbent Governor Adedapo Abiodun of The All Progressives Congress (APC) will meet on Thursday, January 18th.

Adebutu and PDP aim to overturn Abiodun’s election.

In Gombe’s case, the court will hear an appeal filed by Jibrin Barde, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is seeking to overturn the election of Governor Muhammad Yahaya (APC).

On Thursday, a five-judge panel of the Supreme Court, chaired by Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun, heard the appeal (SC/CV/1226/2023).

In the case of Delta, the court will decide on three appeals filed by APC candidate Ovie Omo-Agege, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Kenneth Gbagi and Labor Party (LP) candidate Kennedy Pera.

As for Nasarawa, the Supreme Court is expected to decide on his four appeals filed by his PDP candidate, Mr. Emmanuel David Ombugadu.

In Kebbi’s case, the court will decide on three appeals filed by Aminu Bande, the PDP candidate for the 2015 governorship election; APC’s incumbent governor, Nasir Idris; and the Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar Argungu.

The court on Thursday heard the appeal of PDP candidate in Kaduna State, Mohammed Isa, seeking annulment of the election of APC governor Uba Sani, and reserved judgment until a date to be notified to both parties.

The applicant’s lawyer, Kenneth Mojia (SAN) filed an appeal in memo SC/CV/1240/2023 asking the court to allow the appeal and to set aside the preliminary objections raised by some of the respondents, and asked that the relief sought be granted.

Lawyers to INEC, Sani and APC –Mr. Abdullahi Aliyu (SAN), Mr. Bayo Ojo (SAN) and Mr. Mohammed Katu (SAN), asked the court to dismiss the appeal.

Mr. Mozia informed the court that the appeal was due on January 22, and the court then adjourned judgment until a date to be notified to the parties.

The court has withdrawn the appeal of African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Nafiu Bala marked SC/CV/1227/2023 by lawyer Herbert Nwoyi who was informed that it was a waste of the court’s time. This was subsequently rejected.
